The secondary school years are a time for young adults to open their minds to the divergent possibilities of the global community and to begin to accept greater ownership for the educational pathways that will lead them into their futures.  At Hillfield Strathallan College, the Senior School takes great pride in the fact that each of its students is provided with a wide range of opportunities designed to extend them as learners and challenge them as individuals, helping to ensure that they are well equipped to explore and embrace the broader academic, social, and co-curricular dimensions of their lives.  Under the watchful guidance of our tightly knit teaching faculty and reliable support services staff, students are made to feel welcomed and included in the HSC community as they make these important life decisions and chart their futures.

With an enrolment of 450 students from Grades 9 through 12, the Senior School at HSC is perfectly positioned to offer an impressive breadth of programmatic opportunity while still maintaining a "small school" feeling.  A full range of university preparatory courses, spanning the arts, sciences, technology, humanities, physical and health education, maths, languages, and social sciences, provides the academic depth and rigour that are required to prepare students for university entrance.  Under the coordinated umbrella of Student and Learning Strategies, every student is able to receive the individualized support and guidance that he or she requires to maximize his or her scholastic success.  Additionally, the Senior School strives to identify mechanisms for enriching and extending our curricular offerings through programs such as Advanced Placement, co-curricular trips & events, science fairs, math contests, and the accelerated math program.

Operating under the philosophy that balance is essential in one’s education, and understanding that students need to be exposed to a variety of different experiences in order to fully realize their potential, the extracurricular programs available to the Senior School students at HSC are varied and student involvement is an expectation.  A wide range of interscholastic varsity teams provide student athletes with a chance to experience competition and to develop the character-enhancing qualities fostered through commitment to sports.  Similarly, students can also find a venue for expressing their artistic passions through our dramatic arts, visual arts, and choral & instrumental music programs.

Community service opportunities and student leadership are also highly valued and recognized aspects of the Senior School program at HSC.  Whether under the auspices of the Social Action Committee, or through student-driven initiatives aimed at supporting local charities such as the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Hamilton Food Bank, the Senior School students take a genuine interest in the needs and concerns of their community and give selflessly of their time and energy as volunteers and fundraisers.  While identified student leadership exists through avenues such as Students’ Council, House Leadership, Peer Tutoring, and the College's Prefect group, all of the students are encouraged and supported in their efforts to initiate programs that augment the spirit in the Senior School or provide opportunity for others to become involved in school life.

Hillfield Strathallan College is committed to promoting excellence in everything that it does and our secondary school students are tasked with the responsibility of making a full and genuine effort to maximize their academic, extracurricular, and inter-personal potentials.  The Senior School actively invites, engages, and excites its students so that they can each develop the necessary skills, knowledge, and attitudes to prepare them for a successful and meaningful life beyond our gates.
